2014 DIRECTV Corporate Social Responsibility Report

Now in its fourth year, this annual charitable event in Denver, Colorado, provides funding for STEM programs underway at four organizations. Initiatives supported include the American Heart Association’s school outreach, including a “Doctor for a Day” program for high school students, the Denver School of Science and Technology’s apprentice teacher program, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society’s Chronicle of the New Researcher online journal for high school students, and the programs of Junior Achievement–Rocky Mountain.

This golf tournament is an extension of DIRECTV’s involvement with the American Heart Association’s Denver Heart and Stroke Walk. For the 2014 Denver Heart and Stroke Walk, DIRECTV recruited more than 400 walkers, and DIRECTV employees raised more than $300,000.

For DIRECTV, donated airtime is a powerful tool we use to be a positive influence in support of nonprofits and their causes. In the U.S., DIRECTV supports many of our nonprofit partners by airing their public service announcements (PSAs) at no charge, especially on our ROOT SPORTS networks in Pittsburgh and the Rocky Mountain region.

The Forum

The Forum is the platform that DIRECTV Latin America uses, on our exclusive channel OnDIRECTV, to highlight community outreach efforts led by other organizations and institutions. This allows for the widespread dissemination of all achievements and the stories of positive change in communities.

Supporting our employee giving programs is We Give, a portal designed to motivate and activate charitable giving and volunteerism among our U.S. workforce. We Give makes it easy for employees to stay engaged with charitable and community causes. This user-friendly online tool allows team members to make and track charitable donations that are automatically matched by DIRECTV and manage volunteer hours and rewards, gift matching and request DIRECTV System Donation applications.

DIRECTV System Donations
Each year many charities turn to businesses to request valuable prizes they can offer as part of their fundraising activities and events. Our DIRECTV System Donation Program is an important part of our in-kind charitable support of nonprofit organizations in the U.S. Through the program, employees can request a DIRECTV System Donation prize package to be used for fundraising efforts by the nonprofit organization of their choice.

DIRECTV Gift Matching
Our U.S. gift matching program is designed to support employees in their own charitable giving. Through the program, the company will match employee and Board member donations to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations nationwide (and eligible international organizations), up to $20,000 per employee per year.

Volunteer Rewards
DIRECTV offers a Volunteer Rewards program in the U.S. to help amplify the efforts of employees who volunteer for organizations and causes they care deeply about. Employees can earn $10 to donate for each hour they volunteer on their personal time, up to $250 per employee per calendar year. Volunteer Rewards can be spent on donations to any eligible nonprofit organization of the employees’ choice.
