American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI)
With a score of 69, DIRECTV tied with AT&T U-verse® for the top spot for subscription television in the 2014 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), validating our efforts to transform the customer experience. The ACSI ranks DIRECTV above the competition in critical measures such as Perceived Quality, Picture Quality, Channel Range, Premium Channels Available and Customer Loyalty. Based on our score, DIRECTV leads all surveyed cable providers for the 14th consecutive year.
In 2014, DIRECTV took the number 18 spot on the fifth annual CareerBliss “50 Happiest Companies in America” list compiled for 2015; it was the first year DIRECTV was recognized. CareerBliss evaluates satisfaction indicators that include work-life balance, company culture, work environment, growth opportunities, daily tasks and job resources, along with other factors. We believe our strong showing in the CareerBliss ranking demonstrates our commitment to create a work environment that values and promotes individual career development as part of building the strongest team in our industry.
CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index
CDP, the international nongovernmental organization (NGO) that drives sustainable economies, has named DIRECTV to The A List: The CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index for 2015, in recognition of our efforts to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the business risks of climate change. The index identifies 187 companies that demonstrate a superior approach to climate change mitigation. It is produced by CDP at the request of 767 investors who represent more than a third of the world’s invested capital. DIRECTV and the other climate performance leaders of The A List index are investing to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and collectively have reduced their total (absolute) emissions by 33 million metric tons in the past reporting year, while also achieving impressive financial results.
Computerworld recognized DIRECTV as one of the 100 Best Places to Work in IT in 2014 based on a survey that collects data on employee satisfaction with management, benefits, workplace culture, compensation and job duties. DIRECTV, ranked 37th in the Large Organization category, was outstanding for providing much more than standard benefits, such as health insurance, paid vacation time and 401(k)/403(b) plans. IT professionals at DIRECTV enjoy excellent training opportunities and are encouraged to innovate without fear of failure. Turnover rate is a low 7 percent.
Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)
Since the CEA launched the eCycling Leadership Initiative in 2011 as an industry-led effort to raise consumer awareness of e-waste recycling, DIRECTV has been in the vanguard. We are recognized as an “Initiative Leader” for exceeding the CEA’s 2013 consumer hardware recycling goals by more than 125 percent. The industry goal is to recycle 1 billion pounds of electronics annually by 2016.
Human Rights Campaign (HRC)
The HRC named DIRECTV a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality” with a perfect score of 100 percent on their 2015 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI is a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT employees, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBT community.
With its partner, Corporate Knights Capital, a nonprofit investment advisory and research firm that specializes in quantifying corporate sustainability, Newsweek has ranked the world’s largest companies on corporate sustainability and environmental impact. In 2014, DIRECTV was ranked as the 57th greenest company in the world based on scores in energy, carbon, water and waste productivity. Disclosure on metrics related to environmental initiatives and results makes it possible for investors to factor sustainability into their investment strategies.
DIRECTV and nine other organizations launched the R2 Leader program as founding members to advance the safe, responsible and sustainable repair and recycling of used electronics. Under the auspices of Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI), a nonprofit organization that develops policies and programs to advance sustainable electronics recycling, R2 Leaders advocate for R2-certified electronics repair and recycling and consider R2 certification when choosing a recycling partner. The R2 Standard was created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, electronics manufacturers, recycling companies, nonprofit organizations and other groups. Electronics recycling and refurbishment facilities certified to the R2 Standard adhere to best practices in worker health and safety, environmental protection, chain-of-custody reporting and other measurements.
The Civic 50
DIRECTV was named one of America’s most community-minded companies in The Civic 50, an annual survey that identifies and recognizes companies for their commitment to improve the quality of life in their communities. Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service, and the National Conference on Citizenship (NCOC) conducted the survey, which was published by Bloomberg News. Our recognition in 2014 marks the second consecutive year DIRECTV has been named one of The Civic 50.
The Great Place to Work® Institute
In 2013, DIRECTV’s Argentina, Uruguay and Telecenter operations each ranked as “Best Companies to Work For,” and DIRECTV’s Puerto Rico operation was listed among the island’s “Mejores Patronos” (Best Employers List).
Towers Watson selected DIRECTV to its U.S. High-Performing Companies Norm starting in 2011, based on superior financial performance and people practices, as measured in our Organizational Health Survey. One of the survey categories encompasses employees’ assessment of management’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR®
In 2014, the U.S. EPA named DIRECTV an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its leadership in manufacturing products that earn the ENERGY STAR, the government-backed symbol of energy efficiency. It was our second consecutive year to receive the ENERGY STAR award. We were recognized this year for qualifying more than 10 million set-top box receivers; saving consumers more than $105 million on their energy bills; communicating the message of efficiency to prospective and current customers, as well as employees; and advancing the efficiency of set-top boxes through innovative partnerships with efficiency program partners and research organizations.
